Serving with Love Austin
God loves the city of Austin! And we believe that when God's people show up, then we should see the restoration of people and communities, starting in our neighborhoods and moving progressively throughout the city. Our posture toward the city is to love the people and communities of the city, so naturally we call our community outreach initiative Love Austin. Why Love Austin?
Having withdrawn from the city, the church in the urban core of Austin, is largely absent and irrelevant. As the church began focusing more on moral behavior than on the condition of the heart, the church became judgmental and withdrew. After enough time, the primary interaction the church had with urban areas was through television shows and the media, and it was less than flattering. The combination of the church withdrawing from the city and towards a relationship with the city on a TV screen has left us without a healthy personal witness in the city. Add to this, the politicizing of the church on a local and national scale. As such, in the minds of many in the city, we are a caricaturized version of a political, self-serving, judgmental Christianity. We need a more humble, graceful declaration and demonstration of the truth, with an approach that seeks to engage the people of the city in a manner that breaks the categories that we are placed in. To do so, we also need to continually reexamine the categories we have placed the people of the city in. Loving Austin is our response.
Loving Austin Holistically
Each individual and community is comprised of multiple components that make up the whole person or community. Like any organism, if any part suffers, then the whole of it suffers. As such, Love Austin will seek to operate and bring renewal through multiple paths.

Who is Love Austin?
Love Austin is an initiative of Soma Austin Community Church, which operates as a separate, but affiliated 501(c)3 non-profit organization which will allow us to partner with multiple organizations. Love Austin serves as the primary outreach initiative of Soma Austin, and as such, it is the church partnering alongside the people of the city to serve the city.
