Soma Kids on Sundays
Soma Austin meets Sundays at 10:30am at The Hideout Coffeehouse & Theatre, which is located at 617 Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. It is nearest the corner of Congress Avenue and 7th Street.
We offer childcare for infants through fifth grade. We recommend that you arrive 10-15 minutes early to check-in and ask any questions you have. Soma Kids is upstairs to your left as you get to the back of the coffeeshop. If you have a child in the sixth grade or older that you would like childcare for, please email and let us know. For parking we recommend you check out the parking lot option below which is easier for those with young children.
Because we are parents also, we want to answer three common questions that parents have:
Will My Child Be Safe?
All Soma kids volunteers are already in community with us so we know them, they have all had background checks, including sex offender checks and there are always at least two adults present. Only parents with claim tags are allowed to pick up children, so please hold on to your claim tag. in order to keep your kids healthy we regularly clean and disinfect toys and playmats.
What Will My Child Learn?
In addition to providing a safe place for your children on Sunday mornings, we seek to teach children about Jesus through biblically faithful, age appropriate teaching that centers on the person and work of Jesus as the centerpiece of God’s story. We also want to encourage and support parents in teaching their children about God, so when you leave you will be given a handout that shows what your child did and learned that day, along with some next steps for you to take with your children.
In continuning that partnership, we give out free copies of The Jesus Storybook Bible to parents of children 7 and under, and a free copy of Shepherding a Child's Heart to any parents who drop children off at Soma Kids. Will My Child Have Fun?
Each week, our volunteers work to provide an exciting, nurturing and intentional environment for our children. Through creative teaching, crafts and other avenues, our leaders help children enjoy learning about Jesus from the Bible. Your children will have a great time at Soma Kids!
Parking Options (Plan to arrive early)
- Metered parking is free downtown on Sunday mornings. You might walk a couple blocks, but it is worth it.
- LAZ Parking for $2.00 on the southeast corner of Congress & 7th Street. This is the best option for those small children.
a. Park in a marked spot with a number on it, and make a note of the number.
b. Write 'church' on a piece of paper and place it on your dashboard in plain site
c. Put $2 in the payment slot that corresponds to the number of your parking spot.
d. You will only be able to park in that spot at the reduced rate for a reasonable period of time for church, both before and after. This is a public lot, so there is no guarantee that parking spots will be available.
f. Soma Austin assumes no liability concerning this parking lot. The lot is serving us by offering a reduced rate so they can make a few dollars on an otherwise empty lot. If there are damages or questions concerning LAZ Parking or parking on their property you may contact them directly at (512) 472-4261.
There are other pay lots in the area, but you will need to check their parking rules and payment requirements. Best plan is to arrive early!!
