Renew Austin Saturday - September 2011

It’s that time again when Soma is gearing up to scatter throughout the city and serve those in our neighborhoods, workplaces and city. Renew Austin Saturday is a rhythm at Soma where we corporately take a day to be intentional with our service and demonstration of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Renewal is the act of taking that which is broken and laboring to make it new, full of life, worship and glory. We take part in the renewal of all things because Jesus did and has given us the mission of renewal both in our city and around the world. Jesus renews men and women and we have been called to participate in renewing that which was broken, to make disciples of Jesus Christ by declaring and demonstrating the gospel in love and truth and to seek the healing of the spiritual, physical and social brokenness in the world.

Our first Renewal Austin Saturday in June 2011 and was a great success. We served fire victims, elderly, neighborhoods and families. Check out some of the stories of renewal here.

On September 24th our Soma groups are again serving across the city in a variety of ways. We are sending groups to work with local churches, partnering with them and serving them in their mission. We are going to The ReWork Project to continue preparing space to serve men and women experiencing homelessness. There is a group helping a new pregnancy resource center as it prepares to launch and serve single mothers who are in an almost impossible situation. The harvest is indeed plentiful and it is so encouraging to see many willing laborers from Soma take up the call to demonstrate and declare the gospel in a variety of ways.

If you are a member or regular attender of a Soma Group, your group leader will have information about the renewal project your group is participating with. If you are not a member of a Soma Group but would like to participate, and I will happily get you connected to a project in your part of town. I would highly encourage you to join with us as we labor for the the city of Austin.
