"Compassion, Justice, and the Christian Life"

I have participated in many efforts to help the needy. Food and clothing drives, trips to urban neighborhoods to beautify and clean up, trips to orphanages and even spent time swinging a hammer fixing roofs, porches and all manner of broken homes. For a long time I have felt a disconnect and quiet discontent with the time spent on these activities. While we were able to do some good I always wondered what happened when I walked away. Did the people we saw for a few hours on a Saturday morning have any other contact from whatever Church or organization we were working with? Did they receive any type of ongoing aid? I never knew and it bugged me.

Mission-Minded or Missonal?

When I first became a Christian, I was taught that living a missional life consisted of people serving as missionaries overseas in a third world country sharing the gospel. Sure, I was taught to share the gospel and be a light to my friends and co-workers, but the real people who live on a mission were those missionaries overseas sharing the gospel and dying for Christ, not me

Living Like We Believe the Story is True

Our lives are made up of stories, some of them true, some of them false. They inform how we think, live and make decisions. As Christians, the gospel is not just a story of conversion, but a story that guides how we think, live and make decisions. Living like we believe the story of God is true leads to more abundant life.

Calling (or What Should I Do With My Life)

There is much confusion among Christians regarding calling. Calling basically meaning what should I do with my life. For me, my call is to a city, specifically to the people of the city of Austin. Your call might be to a career, to a specific cause or to a specific place. I believe that much of the confusion regarding calling comes down to two things...
