Capital from Soco - Capital Building looking down...

Jeremiah 29:4-7

“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare."

As Christians we are citizens of heaven and Austin, TX is where God has placed us now to seek the welfare of our city, and to see it ultimately renewed.

As such, we are happy to encourage you to participate in the cities Imagine Austin program which is seeking broad community input on the future of our city.  What will our transportation look like?  Cars, trains, more bike lanes?  What about schools?  Will we continue to have an east vs. west divide? How about housing density?  Should we spread everyone all over Central Texas or encourage more density and city centers?

These are not just city planner questions, these are questions of who we fundamentally as human beings.  What type of communities could we shape to help bring about renewal and community?  Ultimately life and renewal are found only in Jesus Christ, and as Christians, we have the opportunity to get to know our neighbors, show ourselves to be a people who desire to work toward community renewal alongside them and to introduce them to Jesus through genuine relationships.

In an effort to support you in this process, we encourage you to:

  1. Take the online survey (due March 31st!)
  2. Learn more about Imagine Austin and how you can meet your neighbors, co-workers and friends and work toward a better Austin.

In the coming weeks and months we will share more about the Imagine Austin initiative and show how you can use the cities program to meet your neighbors and share your stories with one another about your hopes and concerns.
